Hysterical Beginnings
The Crimson Crazies was thunked up by a couple of unlikely Crazies, one in real estate sales and the other a Barge Captain. So! Draggin their boas, sparklin with bling, and fancy red hats, they appointed themselves as Queen of the Dames and Vice Queen Captain Swish.
And in no time flat they had flinged together The Crimson Crazies, a Chapter of the Red Hat Society on 13th January 2005. The purple flag with the big Red Hat was raised proudly to mark the very first Crazie luncheon.
Our Queen and esteemed members were crowned and reduated in October 2005. Such a memorable day, the paparazzi were there to witness the excited Red Hatters sashaying up the red carpet the room ablaze with red and purple hats, such pomp and ceremony of which had never been witnessed before in such a place ...
Our membership grew and grew, more quickly than our waistlines and we soon found we were exploding and needed to slim down ... We had some very innovative and daring women in our midst ... The Red was soon to spread ... Some took the plunge and started off three more chapters ... The Manukau Butterflies of Papatoetoe, The Botany Babes of Howick and the Racy Red Rascals of Papakura.
In 2006 our dear Vice Queen Captain Swish chose to retire to the sidelines and become Captain Swish Fantastic Advisor to The Queen, and The Royal Sauce' ress Wicked Wendy took on the position of Vice Queen.
August 2005, found the Crimson Crazies leading the charge for the establishment of the first Queens Council in New Zealand. Established for Queens, Vice Queens and Wannabe Queens, this regal gathering meets each quarter, to foster and support Red Hatting and Red Hatters in our region. Supporting them in their pursuit of Red Happerness! Our red and purple door is always open for all Red Hat local and international visitors.
And for those yet to be Red Hatters we invite you to reinvent yourself for the third age, join the ranks of the Twinklies ... (Teenagers with Wrinkles) and become a Red Hatter our motto ... Eat dessert first ...

Queen of the Dames
Has been Red Hatting since 2005 when she discovered Red Hatters through American friends and soon checked out the Red Hat Society web site which directed her to The Rangitoto Reds, the Orakei chapter. After one luncheon meeting she resolved to start a chapter for the Ladies of South Auckland. Her Highness may be contacted on hell1@xtra.co.nz.

Annette became a Red Hatter after being encouraged by her American Red Hat pen friend and looks after the Royal Coffers and the Little Purple Purse so she is our most valuable member, pardon the pun ...

Discovered in a locksmiths shop ... (Where else would ya find such a gem?) Our Right Royal Red Snapper was discovered by our Queen. She is the Crimson Crazies Royal Photographer and creator of the royal albums & bearer of fine and expensive gifts on royal occasions.

Queens Council
Hear ye! Hear ye!
This, the first ancient and venerable gathering of Queens for the purpose of establishing an Auckland Queens Council was held at Kings Plant Barn Cafe in 2005. It was attended by the Crimson Crazies, the Vintage Violets, the Waitakere Ferns, and the Dazzling Divas.
It was agreed upon that the Queens Council be made open to any Queen and her Vicie or an official member of her chapter if she should be unable to attend. Also the Council would be open to those wannabe Queens (known as 'Diamonds') who want to learn how to start up a chapter, seeking moral support and help from established chapters, until they feel polished up and ready to plonk on a crown.
As Red Hatting has grown like wildfire in the region, so has the attendance to these Quarterly Queenly Quantifications with the region chapters taking turns to hostess the Council in their various areas.
This friendly chattery has helped the Queens and Vice Queens to get to know one another better, to have fun, share ideas, resources and experiences. It is here that we foster and support any new chapters starting in the region and plan for future joint events. It is fun to test new tea and coffee shops and test any calorie loaded goodies.
Lets play together and stay together.
